Tamborim Baquetas
I started making these sticks for the Boulder Samba School because good quality sticks like these are virtually unavailable in the U.S.
I make these sticks by hand, one at a time using high quality, durable materials. The sticks contain seven hand shaped plastic rods, with a rubber handle. Each rod starts thin near the handle and grows thicker towards the end. I find that 13” is the ideal length for a well-balanced stick, but if you prefer a different length, I can make one to your specifications.
A seven-rod tapered stick is far superior to any molded plastic or untapered stick. The taper allows the stick to flex in the middle while leaving a larger, heavier tip for more volume, tone, and control. The tips spread apart when the stick hits the drum and produces a thick sound, like seven sticks at once. These important qualities are helpful for playing both the “old” and “new” styles of the carrateiro (examples coming soon!).
